The Need for Hopeful Hats

Creating Connections

We believe that everyone can use extra care and encouragement from time to time, so we strive to provide that support for others.

Hopeful Hats uses hand-knit hats as a way to show care and build connections with cancer patients and others in the Austin, TX community.

OUR STORY

Hopeful Hats is a nonprofit organization founded by Julia McElveen, who began hand-knitting hats for cancer patients when she was in the third grade. In 2024 (11th grade), Julia rediscovered an old, written news article about her early knitting work and was inspired to revive the initiative to support those battling cancer by creating Hopeful Hats, an official 501(c)(3). We’ve grown as a team to create handmade hats and deliver them to the elderly, homeless, and those in need of care throughout the Austin, TX area.
